Walking:
There are many lowland, upland and coastal
walks in the area including the newly completed Wales Coastal Walk. Books of walks are supplied in the cottage and there
are details of 3 local circular walks. Cadair Idris has spectacular
views from the summit and is 5 miles to the north in the Snowdonia
National park. |

Mountain
Biking: The upland tracks are perfect to explore by
bike. Mach 1, 2, & 3. are mapped out local
trails. The
Dyfi Forest Cli-MachX trails (4 miles from the
cottage) were launched in 2004 and has some of the best trails in Wales
with some exciting downhill single track. There are a bike shop in
Machynlleth with a full range of bikes for hire and advice on routes
for all abilities. |

The
Coast: There are good beaches at Aberdyfi, Aberystwyth
and Borth with plenty of space for relaxing or playing on the sand, or
water sports such as surfing. |

The
Centre for Alternative Technology: Is a 30 minute walk
up the lane. with displays of wind, solar and water power and sustainable building
techniques. It is a good day out for the family or a resource of
information. There is a vegetarian restaurant, a shop for books and
products, an adventure playground and organic gardens. Check out the CAT website. |

In
Machynlleth there are various facilities:
Leisure Centre, with swimming pool, squash courts,
sports hall and large indoor bowls area.
Museum of Modern Art in Wales. Galleries of
contemporary paintings with changing exhibits.
Arts & Craft shops. |

Nature
Reserves: There is a large RSPB reserve at Ynys-hir on
the Dyfi estuary, a haven for coastal and woodland birds. The Dyfi Osprey
Project is 5 miles from the cottage and there are
various other SSSI's in the area. The cottage is on the borders of the Snowdonia
National Park with the Dyfi Valley Estuary designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. |
